Have you ever had a thought that went something like this? “Wow, I wish I had what they have!”, or “Man, I wish I looked like that!”, or “I wish I had their talent!”
Jealousy. Webster describes it like this. “Feeling resentment against someone, because of that persons rivalry, success, or advantages.” Jealousy usually starts off very subtle, but if a jealous thought is not taken captive, it can become a very dangerous emotion. We live in a world that focuses on material possessions, flawless bodies, (we even have filters that take away every blemish), perfect relationships, and successful money making jobs. Having all these things is what the world describes as bringing “true happiness.” Looking at someone who has all these things (or “seems” to have all these things by what is portrayed through their social media accounts), can bring on jealousy and anger, constantly making us feel as if we don’t HAVE enough, DO enough, and ARE NOT enough. When jealousy takes root, it begins to consume everything we do and then becomes VERY destructive. Hearts become offended, families begin to be ripped apart, and long-term friendships start ending, all because of this dangerous emotional sin, called jealousy.
The Word of God shows us how dangers jealousy can be in James 3:14-16. “But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” I believe that when we have jealous thoughts or do something that’s rooted in jealousy we open the door to chaos, and disorder and every evil thing to operate in our lives.
So here’s how you can be FREE:
1. Recognize and admit to Christ that you’re having jealous thoughts.
2. Repent (Turn)
3. Take every thought captive by making them obedient to God’s Word.
4. Then think on these things… (Phil. 4:8)
My friend, God has designed you UNIQUELY with a specific PURPOSE and DESTINY. Your DESTINY is different than anyone else’s. What you have, what you look like, and what you do is beautiful and unique.
I challenge you to stop jealous thoughts dead in their tracks. Refusing to open the door to the enemy. Today, and every day know that YOU ARE ACCEPTED, YOU ARE SIGNIFICANT, YOU ARE SECURE, and YOU ARE LOVED! (1 John 4:19)
